Sharjah Art Foundation has announced the seven winners of the production programme grant. Mounira Al Solh, Doa Aly, Fatma Belkıs and Onur Gökmen, Taus Makhacheva, Joe Namy and Ghassan Salhab are the recipients of its 2018 Production Programme grant, which awards a total of USD 200,000 to support the production of new work.

Now in its fifth cycle, the foundation’s Production Programme grant offers artists both a platform for experimentation and the resources to produce ambitious new projects. Awardees will work closely with the foundation to develop, produce and present their projects, which span a wide range of media, including sculpture, artist’s books, mixed media, installation and performance.

‘Sharjah, the UAE and the region are sites of intense artistic activity, with artists working on experimental projects not only with the local community but also with collaborators internationally,’ said Hoor Al Qasimi, Director of Sharjah Art Foundation. ‘The foundation is dedicated to promoting and encouraging a nurturing environment of support that elevates artistic endeavours and increases visibility for this important work.’

The 2018 awardees were chosen by an international jury, whose members were Solange Oliveira Farkas, Chief Curator and General Director of the Contemporary Art Festival SESC Videobrasil, and Zeynep Öz, an independent curator and co-founder of SPOT Contemporary Art Projects in Istanbul, as well as Al Qasimi.
