21,39 Jeddah's arts festival opens this week

Refusing To Be Still is the title of the fifth edition of 21,39, the annual art festival presented by the Saudi Art Council in venues across Jeddah. Showcasing the work of more than 30 Saudi and international artists, it will reveal the creative energy that characterises contemporary production in Saudi Arabia and its growing significance.

Participating artists include Ahaad Al Amoudi is a multidisciplinary artist whose works involves ethnographical studies that trace the intersection between past and contemporary history of Saudi Arabia; calligrapher Abdulaziz Azad Rashidi; Abdul Karim Al Qassem, one of the founding members of the STA artists group; Filwa Nazer, who works with the mediums of digital print, collage and appropriation of photography as tools and Mohamed Alkhatib, also known as Emy Kat, who is best known for his explorations of culture and heritage as well as landscape and spiritual transformations.
