The ArtePrize a new global prize for emerging artists and the first to take entries exclusively through an app has announced its inaugural winner. Zuza Golińska, who lives and works in Warsaw, Poland won the prize with Dead End / Future Twice, a striking laser installation that questions relations between people and the ecosystem that those relationships create. The installation comprises a room full of professional laser levels arranged in a grid pattern which incorporates measurements from the artist’s own body as a scale tool. It is a project about the borders and structures that people experience, about paths that will eventually cross and those that will remain parallel.

Dead End is being exhibited at Delfina Foundation in London from Janurary 23 – 27 January, 2018, alongside the three other shortlisted projects: Sahil Naik’s Ground Zero: Artist as the Suspect/Bomber and Portrait of Homes/Exit Wounds, Kiah Reading’s Zen Tech and Lukas Zerbst’s OFFSPACE and LET GO.

For first prize, Golińska received a cash prize of US$15,000 and a three month residency at Delfina Foundation in London. Her work was selected a panel of art world experts, consisting of Aaron Cezar, Director of Delfina Foundation (chair); Nada Raza, Curator of the Tate Research Centre; Joe Kennedy, Founder of the Unit Gallery, London; Rana Begum, award-winning British artist, and Shohidul Ahad-Choudhury, Founder of ArteVue and ArtePrize.

Aaron Cezar, Chair of the ArtePrize judging panel and Director of Delfina Foundation, said: “The judges felt that all of the works by the ArtePrize finalists are equally strong; so we have partly based our decision on the basis of who will benefit the most from the residency at Delfina Foundation. Zuza Golińska’s installation is wholly immersive and impactful. As her art is about interaction with society and world around you, we believe that being in London for three months will progress her practice immeasurably.”

Golińska was born in 1990 in Gdańsk, Poland. Her work deals with the relationship between humans, public space and architecture, and is strongly influenced by the way people behave in and interact with the public realm. She obtained her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, from the Studio of Painting Space and Studio of Spatial Activities respectively. In 2014 Golińska was awarded first prize in the Gdańsk Art Biennale, she was finalist for the Hestia Artistic Journey Award in both 2014 and 2015, and in 2016 she was awarded a scholarship from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage in Poland.

Entries for the ArtePrize were submitted through the ArteVue App, a social art sharing platform that allows artists, galleries, curators, collectors and enthusiasts across the world to discover, collect, curate, share and purchase art.
