Hassan Hajjaj will open a solo exhibition at Somerset House in London as part of 1:54 Contemporary African Art Fair in October. The artist uses elements of kitsch and pop culture to frame his densely packed photographic portraits and expertly fuses many elements of culture and influence to capture the spirit of his subjects. The new exhibition, La Caravane, will include a new body of work – a nine screen video installation named My Rock Stars: Volume 2, which is an iteration of his 2011 body of work of the same name.

1:54 is international art fair dedicated to contemporary African art. It is in its fifth edition in 2017. For this edition, there will be 41 galleries specialising in contemporary African art from 18 countries across Europe, Africa, the Middle East and North America. Dubai spaces Lawrie Shabibi and El Marsa are among the participators.
