Two Exhibitions to Open at Louvre Abu Dhabi

This week, the Louvre Abu Dhabi will open two new exhibitions. Here are the details
From One Louvre to Another – December 21, 2017 to April 7, 2018
This exhibition tells the fascinating stories of the origins of the Musée du Louvre: from the royal collections of Louis XIV, displayed in the gardens and royal apartments in the palace of Versailles, to the pioneering artists’ studios and workshops of the Louvre in Paris, and finally to the museum’s grand opening to the public following the political upheaval of the French Revolution.
This is Louvre Abu Dhabi’s first temporary exhibition and includes 150 masterpieces from the Château de Versailles and the Louvre’s earliest collections, including painting, sculpture, furniture and ceramics gathered from across the world.
The exhibition is curated by Jean-Luc Martinez, President-Director of the Musée du Louvre, and Juliet Trey, curator of seventeenth and eighteenth-century drawings and prints.
Co-Lab: Contemporary Art and Savoir-faire – December 21, 2017 to March 25, 2018
In addition, Co-Lab: Contemporary Art and Savoir-faire, which is part of the Emirati-French Cultural Programme established by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi and France’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development, Ministry of Culture and Communication, and the Institut français in January 2016, will also open on 21 December, at Louvre Abu Dhabi’s Forum. The display features four contemporary works of art of different media created by UAE-based artists in collaboration with renowned French manufacturers.
With a view to a mutual inspiration, the Manufacture Nationale de Sèvres opened its doors to Talin Hazbar to work on ceramics. The manufacturing company of Beauvais embarked upon a collaboration with Khalid Shafar, around the art of weaving. The luxury glassware firm of Saint-Just teamed up with Zeinab Alhashemi. The MTX Broderie Architecturale engaged with Vikram Divecha.
