Alibadah to open at NYU Abu Dhabi Project Space

The NYU Abu Dhabi Art Gallery, the University’s academic museum have announced the next show at its auxiliary venue, The Project Space. Alibadah is an extension of an ongoing dialogue between artists Hashel Al Lamki and Mohammed Al Mazrouei on concepts of the existence and evolution of humans as a species.

Featuring over 25 paintings and sculptures, the artworks in Alibadah are directly driven by the correspondence between the two artists — one living in Abu Dhabi and the other in Cairo. These works are an attempt to engage viewers by pushing boundaries of definitions. Not intended to be written text, the artworks instead make use of every material available and every idea that is possible.

Emirati artist Hashel Al Lamki brings his perspectives on the complexities of the rapid industrial and architectural growth of the Emirates to his work, focusing on social innovation and sustainability practices. He is a recent member of The Salama bint Hamdan Emerging Artists Fellowship (SEAF) and co-founder of Bait 15, an artist-run space in Abu Dhabi.

Eqyptian-born, Emirati artist Mohammed Al Mazrouei resided in the UAE for four decades and has long been a fixture of the art scene, working for Abu Dhabi’s Cultural Foundation for many years and serving as head of the Emirati Fine Arts Society & Writer's Union. He now lives and works in Cairo, Egypt.

Alibadah opens to public on Wednesday, September 26 with a reception in The Project Space from 6:30 – 8:30 pm. The exhibition runs until October 13, 2018.
