Art Dubai has announced the title of this year’s Global Art Forum: “School is a Factory?”. The title was chosen by editor Victoria Camblin and curator Fawz Kabra. “School is a Factory?” will follow on from the previous edition’s theme of automation, and ask: What should education prioritise in the coming decade? How should humans be taught in the age of accelerated mechanisation? Is the notion of ‘learning for life’ just an opportunistic tagline? Will higher education escape the ghetto of elitism? Do past experiments in education have something to teach today? And will we need humans to teach humans anymore, anyway?

Highlights of the programme include sessions with Curator of Contour Biennale 9 Nataša Petrešin-Bachelez, Designer Amir Berbic, Initiators of Campus in Camps Sandi Hilal and Alessandro Petti in conversation with Fawz Kabra discussing the concept of the commons as a space of collectivity to create new ways of learning and sharing experiences in “School is the Commons?”, a presentation by Curator/Writer/Consultant Victoria Ivanova on how experimentation is integral to an institutions progress, innovation and growth in “School is a Laboratory: R&D at the Institution” and a discussion with Director of The Showroom and Senior Curator at Creative Time Elvira Dyagani Ose, Victoria Ivanova and Director of the Jameel Arts Centre Antonia Carver hosted by Curator at SculptureCenter Sohrab Mohebbi questioning why education continues to be an urgent topic in “School is the Establishment?”.
