Saudi Pavilion at Venice looking for contributions
The commissioners of the Saudi Pavilion at the 2018 Venice Biennale are looking for contributions towards this year’s exhibition. The Misk Art Institute is looking for innovative proposals that explore the freedom of architecture and that question, review, and challenge how we engage with the space we occupy.
Inspired by the overarching Biennale theme of Freespace announced by Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara, the 2018 Venice Architecture Biennale curators that celebrates architecture’s inclusivity, as well as its ability to not only “shelter our bodies, but also to lift our spirits.”
The Misk Art Institute are inviting Saudi based architects and designers to explore the concept of Un/Design as an approach to dealing with architectural evolution.
The competition statement says: “We invite submissions that consider the Biennale as a forum to consider the need to Un/Design and dismiss the formality of the design process, allowing room for accidental collisions to occur that result in an organic exchange between elements in space.”
The team behind the winning proposal will have the opportunity to actualise their idea in the form of an exhibition at the 16th International Architecture Exhibition at the Venice Biennale, opening in May 2018 .
- Submission is open until the 10th of January 2018. Apply online.
