Art Week is in full swing, here is a round up of just some of the happenings on Alserkal Avenue this week.

A full day of talks, panels and discussions on the prolific life and career of Hassan Sharif will take place at Sharjah Art Foundation this week. 

Hassan Sharif was without a doubt the UAE's leading light of contemporary art. There are only two weeks left to see his monumental retrospective at Sharjah Art Foundation. Don't miss your chance.

Art Jameel's Project Space is a chance for us to see what the institution will offer when it is open next year. The Research Studio is a well presented collation of some of the ongoing work dedicated to documenting the early history of the contemporary cultural scene of the UAE.

Portrait of a Nation collates the artwork of 50 contemporary artists from the UAE with a central theme reflecting on their homeland and the influence it has had on their practice. Originally shown in Abu Dhabi in 2016, it is now travelling to Berlin.

In Christine Macel's statement for the current (57th) edition of the Venice Biennale she wrote: "Today, in a world full of conflicts and shocks, art bears witness to the most precious part of what makes us human. Art is the ultimate ground for reflection, individual expression, freedom, and for fundamental questions."
